Media organizations have declared Joe Biden the president-elect. This is the part where we’re told Donald Trump, the President of the United States, should graciously concede to his worthy opponent, give a boilerplate concession speech on the wonders of a peaceful transition of power, and D.C. insiders get to start preparing for the (socially distanced) inauguration parties this winter.
Sorry, but it’s not going to be that simple.
Despite what you may have heard in the press, this election is not over. The Trump administration has brought lawsuits in a handful of swing states seeking to eliminate large numbers of illegally cast ballots, and to establish alleged fraud on behalf of the Biden campaign.
Instead of allowing these legal challenges to play out with our independent judicial branch, the media is engaged in an all-hands-on-deck pressure campaign to malign and intimidate anyone who supports President Trump and his team into backing off. The usual smears against Trump – “he’s a dictator” and he’s “destroying our democracy!” – are on what feels like a continuous loop in the corporate press. CNN and MSNBC are acting like Trump bombed Pearl Harbor.
Do This BEFORE Biden Takes the White House
Surprisingly, only roughly 10% of people in the U.S. have made this move… yet it’s already created tens of thousands of millionaires. And with Biden and company about to occupy the White House, this could prove to be the #1 most important financial step you take between now and the end of this year. Get the details here.
Ah yes, Trump is having lawyers bring legal challenges to our courts to address irregularities and alleged improprieties in the ballot counts – just like what Stalin would do! Whatever one may think of Trump’s chances of prevailing in court (they’re admittedly not high), there’s simply no rational ground to act like these Constitutionally sound, entirely legal actions to gain transparency into this election are a threat to our Republic.
If anything, verifying vote counts through the legal mechanisms in place for just such a circumstance should be seen as strengthening our faith in electoral institutions. The Biden campaign should welcome such checks and balances within our system. Robust oversight of elections in our court system increases voter confidence that every legal ballot will be counted.
Alas, this argument is having no effect on the Democrats who have already been dancing in the streets in celebration of Biden’s victory. Among the media and the Left, there’s now an unhinged fury at the mere possibility of an overturned election result. Violence broke out during the November 15 “MAGA March on D.C.” as Antifa and assorted counter-protestors were caught on video numerous times engaged in mob violence against Trump supporters. D.C. Metro Police largely stood aside and did nothing, as usual.
Can’t you feel all the “healing” and the “unity” of a Biden victory?
It turns out that, despite promises to the contrary, even the prospect of a defeated Trump hasn’t taken the polarization and fury out of our politics. The “Orange Man Is Bad” ethos of the Democrat Left hasn’t transformed into friendly outreach to his supporters. Biden voters in the streets aren’t hoping for converts, they’re hunting for heretics.
None of this is surprising… Given the saturation of political punditry in the smartphone and social media era, the only way to get attention these days is to exaggerate threats from the other side and terrify one’s own supporters into clicking on just one more link to see what’s next. That business model for “journalism” will not change in the least whether Trump officially concedes or continues this fight long into the first term of a Biden administration.
The good news is the founding fathers foresaw this kind of ferocious political tribalism. That’s one of the many reasons why the separation of powers in the Constitution is so ingenious and has been, up to this point, so durable. They limited the ability of any one branch of government, or any bureaucracy within the executive, to the system as a whole.
Assuming Republicans win at least one of the two remaining Senate seats in the Georgia run-offs on January 5, Biden will likely be taking over the presidency with a divided Congress. This will be a serious roadblock for the most radical Left agenda items within his party, and will be at least a temporary bulwark against their surging socialism.
If, however, Democrats manage to run the table on both Georgia Senate seats, and Biden takes over a unified Democrat government… batten down the hatches. All bets are off. Get ready for amnesty, the Green New Deal, and a slew of other insane collectivist schemes. And we will be on stronger-than-ever ground to start using words like “dictator” and “fascist” to describe the Biden administration if we so choose.
Be sure to check out my future columns where I’ll describe in greater detail the “threat to our democracy” that such a circumstance would pose.
You see, both sides can play this game…
